In 2005, Hurricane Katrina destroyed all 101 public housing units of the Bay Waveland Housing Authority. HSA formulated a replacement housing plan that incorporated a mixed-finance strategy to not only replace the public housing units, but add another 100 units of non-public housing. Completed in 2011 at a cost of $26.8 million, Bay Pines incorporates new construction and energy savings features designed to guard against any future wind or storm surge damage while reducing operating costs.
