Jim has been practicing law since 1974. His practice concentrations include real estate, real estate development, business, corporate, partnership and commercial practice, with an emphasis on affordable housing. He holds an “av” rating from Martindale-Hubbell.
Jim is the managing partner of The Smitherman Law Firm, L.C., and is President and CEO of Interstate Title Company, Inc. Interstate Title Company, Inc. is a real estate title and loan closing company, handling all types of real estate closings and financing transactions. As a lawyer, Mr. Hill has represented clients in negotiations and closings for new construction, rehabilitation, and other types of projects involving a wide range of affordable housing projects.

He is admitted to practice law in Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Colorado and the District of Columbia. He has worked on numerous and varied projects in several states including Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Colorado, Mississippi, Arkansas and Florida.
